Soil

Caring for the land
nurtures us
like caring for our mother —
the Mother of Life
Soil.

Soil that feeds us
is being washed away,
blown away
by the tons
lost to the oceans.
This is our home
the home that feeds us.

I used to know all this,
lived it
but that deep caring is gone.
Food gets thrown out
not composted
worms leave to find
a richer feeding ground.
Soil left unnourished.

I am in front of
the computer
feeding my mind.
My body needs to
work — the work
of the Soil.

My neighbor's fava beans
are already up.
What am I waiting for?

Thanks Roann! This blog is really inspiring my creativity. Just what I was hoping.

Beautiful image and poetry Sherrie. I love the way the blog kind of forces me to create something and need to get after it on more regular basis.

Poetry is harder though . It is so fugitive and elusive.
One day it just flows then next day, week, months... I "got" nothin'!!

Thanks, Victoria! Yes, the poetry is certainly fugitive and elusive. That's why I made a non-verbal agreement with it -- to write it down, no matter what is coming. I also set a time for it now. It feels like I honor the flow and keep the door open.
